Wave Murano Glass and Richard Meitner present ANYTHINK at Murano Illumina Il Mondo
A new chandelier created by artist Richard Meitner in collaboration with Wave Murano Glass and maestro Roberto Beltrami illuminates the Procuratie Vecchie in St Mark’s Square for the 10th edition of The Venice Glass Week.
On the occasion of the 10th edition of The Venice Glass Week, September 2026, Wave Murano Glass is proud to take part in Murano Illumina Il Mondo, the flagship exhibition bringing contemporary Murano glass to the heart of Venice.
From 13 September to 1 November 2026, twelve original chandeliers created through collaborations between internationally acclaimed artists, architects, designers and Murano glassmakers illuminate the Procuratie Vecchie in Piazza San Marco.
Among them is ANYTHINK, a new work by artist Richard Meitner, created in collaboration with Wave Murano Glass and maestro Roberto Beltrami.
ANYTHINK: glass, light and technology in dialogue
Made from blown white opaline glass, ANYTHINK combines traditional Murano glassmaking with an advanced programmable LED lighting system, allowing light to become an active part of the work rather than simply a means of illumination.
The project extends the possibilities of the chandelier beyond its traditional form, bringing together craftsmanship, contemporary artistic research and digital technology.
The lighting and interaction design was developed in collaboration with Prof. Freddie Hong of Kingston School of Art, London, while the project was prototyped during an artist residency at CERFAV in Vannes-le-Châtel, France, supported by the DRAC – French Ministry of Culture. SIGNIFY / Philips International contributed advanced LED lighting technology to the project.
Murano craftsmanship as a contemporary language
Murano Illumina Il Mondo brings twelve different creative visions into dialogue with the centuries-old expertise of Murano’s furnaces.
For Wave Murano Glass, the collaboration with Richard Meitner reflects an approach that has always been central to our work: preserving the extraordinary knowledge of Murano glassmaking while opening the furnace to experimentation, contemporary art, design and new technologies.
ANYTHINK was developed through the continuous exchange between the artist and the furnace, translating an artistic concept into blown glass through the technical knowledge, experimentation and craftsmanship of maestro Roberto Beltrami and the Wave team.
The result is a work in which glass, light, technology and craftsmanship become part of a single evolving composition.
Murano Illumina Il Mondo
The exhibition transforms the Procuratie Vecchie into an exceptional setting for contemporary glass, presenting twelve works specifically conceived and engineered for the historic location.
Alongside Richard Meitner and Wave Murano Glass, the 2026 edition includes collaborations involving Norman Foster, Bethan Laura Wood, Amanda Levete, Cerith Wyn Evans, Chiara Dynys, Felekşan Onar, Tristano di Robilant, Xavier Le Normand, Arthur Duff, Pierre Charpin and Scuola Abate Zanetti.
Through these encounters between artists and furnaces, Murano Illumina Il Mondo celebrates Murano glass not only as an extraordinary heritage, but as a living and constantly evolving contemporary artistic language.
